Austin Peay State University GovernorsCitrus Springs, FL – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team shaved 14 strokes from its Friday score but it wasn’t good enough to move the Lady Govs up the leaderboard during the final day of the EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate.

The Lady Govs shots a final round 317 after firing a 331 Friday. The Lady Govs finished at 961 in the three-day tourney to finish fifth, the same spot they began Saturday’s play.  Eastern Kentucky won the event with a 931, defeating Florida Atlantic in a playoff.

Individually, three Lady Govs team members shot below 80 Saturday after none were able to crack that number the previous day. Senior Chelsea Harris finished in ninth place with a 235 after firing a final-round 79. Redshirt freshman Tabitha Beard also had a 79 to end at 245, tying for 20th while senior Ashley Wathen also had a 79 for a 247, tying for 25th.

However, sophomore Holly Batey was the Lady Govs most consistent performer during the tourney. She followed a 79 and 81 with an 80, Saturday, to finish at 240 and a 14th-place finish.  Junior Ashley Averitt rounded out the team scores, shooting a final-day 87 for a 251.

Catie Tucker The Lady Govs best performance, Saturday, came from an individual. Senior Catie Tucker recorded 78 to finish with a 244, tying her for 18th place, quite a comeback for the Ooltewah native who began the tourney with triple and double bogeys on her first two tourney holes.

APSU’s two other individuals, freshmen Rachel Deaton and Tala Mumford came in at 255 (88-82-85) and 263 (91-86-86), respectively.
