APSU Men’s Tennis
Pensacola, FL – Austin Peay State University bounced back from a disappointing loss with a 5-2 win against BYU Hawaii, Saturday.
The win was even more impressive considering that the Govs dropped the doubles point and managed to win five of six singles matches. It was the first time this season for APSU to lose the doubles point and go on to win the match.
“We didn’t play well in the doubles at all,” head coach Malik Tabet said. “We had a chance to win at No. 2 and we couldn’t finish the match. Henrique and Sean didn’t play well today either; I thought they could’ve been a lot more competitive.”
On the single side, the Govs won matches No. 2 through No. 6. Norbiato rebounded from a lackluster doubles appearance to win in straight sets at No. 2, while Bailey also won at No. 3. Storie also won his second three-set match at No. 6.
“They fought really well in singles,” Tabet said. “I think the break really helped us a lot, especially allowing the team to spend some time together and get tighter. We fought back hard today and we’re able to get the win.”
Now the Govs get into the bulk of Ohio Valley Conference play with matches at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, beginning next Friday.
