Obi named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Chiamaka ObiClarksville, TN – Senior Chiamaka Obi, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Clarksville native began the outdoor season as one of the top performers at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.

Obi, won the 400-meter dash with time of 55.47. A time faster than any of her times from last season. The senior continued to impress finishing eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.52.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman Rolando Gautier of the baseball team extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a hit in all five of the Governors’ games during the week. Gautier hit .368 (7 of 19) and drove in five runs, leading the Govs in both categories for the week. The freshman also hit his first career home run with a two-run shot March 9th, against South Dakota.
  • Junior Jeremy Dobbs of the baseball team picked up the decision in both of APSU’s wins last week. He came on in relief in the Govs win March 8th, against South Dakota State. and worked around an error, allowing one earned run over two innings while striking out five. Dobbs also won his Sunday start at Arkansas State, allowing two runs over seven innings and striking out six.
  • Sophomore Carolin Weikard and Freshman Andra Cornea of the women’s tennis team won both of their doubles matches during the week. The tandem won 8-7 at home against Kennesaw State and followed that performance with a convincing 8-1 win at South Alabama. Weikard also had a singles victory against Kennesaw State winning 7-6, 6-2.
