Clarksville, TN – On Saturday evening Austin Peay State University‘s Music/Mass Communication Building played host to Altrusa’s third annual Dancing with the Stars competition. The evening was emceed by Cydney Miller and David Medeiros. The contest was judged by Art Conn, Louise Seawright, and Danny Baye, with the assistance of 100 random audience members who voted for their favorites from each round of dancing. The scores were tallied by Henry Martin from Stone, Rudolph, and Martin CPAs.
Dancing for the evening was Conrad Eddington & Pro Krisa Pilszak; Britney Campbell & Pro Christopher Wayne;Melissa Schaffner & Pro Jonathan Bungard; Jim Knoll & Pro Ann Marie Fournier; Sandra Watts & Pro Chris Larsen; Ronnie Hunter & Pro Jamiee Simon. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan was scheduled to perform, but due to a knee injury she was replaced with Melissa Schaffner from Fort Campbell’s MWR.
The Stars started off back in September with weekly group sessions at the Clarksville Dance Club. Then they headed to Nashville to work with their professional partner for with 40 hours of training. Each team had to learn two very intricate dance numbers.
To introduce the stars to the audience, and to give them a glimpse of what being a performer in “Dancing with the stars” was like, each star was introduced and a short video of their training process was played for the audience. Afterwards each star did their number followed by comments from the judges, and after a bit of friendly banter with Cydney Miller they received their totals.
The dances were:
- Conrad & Kris did the East Coast Swing
- Britney & Christopher did a spicy Tango
- Melissa & Jonathan did a elegant Waltz
- Jim & Ann Marie did the Cha-Cha with personality and flair
- Sandra & Chris did the Foxtrot
- Ronnie & Jamie did the Ruma
After a short intermission, the action continued:
- Britney & Christopher did the Rumba
- Ronnie & Jamie did the Foxtrot
- Jim & Ann Marie did the Tango
- Melissa & and Jonathan did the East Coast Swing
- Conrad & Krisa did the Vienna Waltz
- Sandra & Chris did the Cha-Cha
At various intervals all pro dance numbers were performed for the audience.
After the dances were finished Altrusa presented $5,000 in scholarship checks to Jennifer Hines, Kenneth Billings, Sheila Kroger, Tara Quirion, and Maria Jimenez.
This was followed by dances by two talented young people; Derrion Reddin, and Lily Farrar.
However, there could only be one winner and this evening the deserving couple was Sandra Ford & Chris Larsen. They were presented with the award by last years winner Ted Crozier Jr.
All in all, this is a great event; and one you should attend next year. The evening was non-stop action; and every single dancer performed like a pro.
