Clarksville Leaders make Nashville Post’s “In Charge” List

Nashville PostNashville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is among a handful of local people who made the Nashville Post’s “In Charge” list of Middle Tennessee’s business and political “power brokers.”

This is the second year the prominent Music City business publication has recognized those in the Nashville area who have “the ability to use a position to create opportunity for others … in business, government or on broader civic issues,” according to the magazine’s March/April issue. The list was broken into various categories such as Banking & Finance, Education, and Government/Politics, in addition to Media, Music, Sports and Technology.

The magazine noted McMillan’s prior experience as the first woman elected majority leader of the Tennessee House of Representatives and senior advisor to former Gov. Phil Bredesen.  McMillan attended a special reception for the honorees on Monday, March 21st, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.

Under Banking & Finance, two local business leaders are featured – Jack Turner, owner of Jack B. Turner & Associates, and Sammy Stuard, president and CEO of F&M Bank.

Turner is noted as “Clarksville’s most decorated businessman, and its most generous philanthropist.”  His position as a civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army is also mentions, as well as his fundraising efforts for the $25 million Wings of Liberty Museum at Fort Campbell.

The magazine credits Stuard with growing F&M “bank assets of approximately $20 million to more than $800 million, with 15 offices and four mortgage loan offices located throughout Middle Tennessee.”

Also listed under the Government /Politics banner with McMillan is James Chavez, president and CEO of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council. The publication noted that he has “helped bring about a change in the perception of Clarksville – often mislabeled as a distant Nashville neighbor.” It also credits his tenure with helping land Hemlock Semiconductor’s $1.2 billion solar cell material manufacturing facility.

Austin Peay State University President Tim Hall is listed under the Education category, which distinguishes him as leading the state’s fastest-growing university. “Under Hall, APSU has launched a novel new curriculum in concert with Hemlock Semiconductor.”
