Lady Govs travel to SEMO for three-game weekend OVC series

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will hit the road for a key three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this Saturday and Sunday against Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, MO.

The two teams will play a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader and conclude the series with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game – all being played at the Southeast Softball Complex.

Austin Peay (7-23, 2-8 OVC) comes in after a doubleheader split with Tennessee State, Thursday. The Lady Govs sit in ninth place in the conference standings – three games out of sixth place. Only the top six regular-season finishers will qualify for the OVC post-season tournament.

Southeast Missouri (10-19, 6-5 OVC) enters in fourth place in the conference standings after splitting a doubleheader with UT Martin, Wednesday.

Morgan BrewerThe Lady Govs and Redhawks already have met once this season in a non-conference tilt at the Ole Miss Red and Blue Classic on February 26th. SEMO won that game, 6-3.

Austin Peay enters the weekend finally starting to see its pitching gain much-needed consistency. The Lady Govs pitchers have posted a 2.13 ERA over the last four games, while averaging a little better than five strikeouts per game in that span.

Sophomore Morgan Brewer leads the APSU pitching staff with a 5-8 win-loss mark, but has reeled off three straight victories.

Tiffany SmithOffensively, Austin Peay has four players hitting better than .270, led by freshman Lauren de Castro (.287, 2 HR, 13 RBI), followed by senior Tiffany Smith (.276, 3 HR, 16 RBI) and juniors Catie Cozart (.271, 2 HS, 11 RBI) and Amy Mills (.271, 1 HR, 8 RBI).

Southeast Missouri is led at the plate by Carmen Fowler (.400, 0 HR, 23 RBI) and in the circle by Alora Marble (5-6, 4.50 ERA).
