Track and Field comes up big at final home outdoor meet

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team wrapped up its final home meet, the Austin Peay Invitational, with a number of wins along with several personal bests as well.

All-in-all, the Lady Govs were either first or second place in 10 different events, including three field events in a meet that included Belmont, Lipscomb, Western Kentucky, Bethel and Lane College.

Jasmine Scott had the Lady Govs most impressive win in the 100-meter dash, where she set a team best and personal best with a time of 12.12. Cenitra Hudson finished second at 12.21. Chiamaka Obi won both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. In fact, her 200-meter time (25.57) was just off her personal best.

The Lady Govs also picked up a win the 4×100-meter relay. Candace Cullors, Scott, Leigha Tolliver and Hudson ran at 48.55.

April Hollman set a personal best with a 1.69m height in the high jump. Hollman’s last best came at Coastal Carolina – the Lady Govs first outdoor meet of the season. Tolliver won the triple jump (11.32m) and Courtney Jordan also took home first in the javelin (33.77m)

Jasmine Scott“Jasmine had a good day, not only with her personal best in the 100-meter, but also helping win the 4×100-meter relay,” head coach Doug Molnar said. “April’s high jump also was big. A lot of that is mental and I’m not sure she knew the height going in.”

Xiamar Richards used a late burst to win the 800-meter run with a personal-best 2:23.50 time, just two seconds ahead of Janelle Avery who came in 2:25.02. Taelor Slaughter, meanwhile, finished third at 2:30.08.
