Sounds open 2011 Season on Thursday at Greer

Mayor Dean, Keni Thomas Highlight Opening Night Festivities

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds kick off their 2011 schedule at Greer Stadium this Thursday, April 7th with an eight-game homestand against the New Orleans Zephyrs and Oklahoma City RedHawks. The promotion-packed homestand will be highlighted by new family-friendly promotions and returning fan-favorites from 2010.

Nashville mayor Karl Dean will throw the season-opening ceremonial first pitch and American country music singer and former United States Army Ranger Keni Thomas will perform the national anthem prior to Thursday’s 7:05pm home opener against New Orleans, the Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins.

The first 2,500 fans through the turnstiles on Opening Night will receive a free Sounds magnet schedule, courtesy of the U.S. Marine Corps. It will also mark the return of Taco Bell Throwback Thursday. This fun promotion features Sounds players wearing retro 1980s-style uniforms while fans enjoy concession stands filled with discounted pricing, such as $2.00 beer, $2.00 soft drinks, $2.00 hot dogs, $2.00 popcorn, and $2.00 nachos. Beer sales will conclude at the end of the 6th inning, while Slugger’s Sports Bar will sell until the end of game. Fans with Taco Bell receipts and college students with valid college IDs will receive $5.00 general admission tickets to the game. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm.

On Friday, the Sounds and Zephyrs will play game two of the four-game series at 7:05pm. The first 2,500 fans through the turnstiles will receive a free Sounds magnet schedule, courtesy of the U.S. Marine Corps. Gates open at 6:05pm.

Adding to the excitement of the homestand, Saturday’s 6:35pm contest with New Orleans will end with a bang, as the season’s first postgame fireworks show lights up the sky following the action on the field, courtesy of Nashville News Channel 2. Gates open at 5:35pm.

Sunday afternoon’s 2:05pm series finale against the Zephyrs will be a Purity Sundae Sunday with $1.00 ice cream sundaes available at Greer Stadium. Sounds mascot Ozzie will celebrate his birthday with a bash, featuring several of his local mascot friends in attendance as part of the celebration. It will also be the first of many weekly Ozzie’s Kids Club games, the ultimate fan club for kids 12 and under. Gates open at 1:05pm.

On Monday, April 11th, the Oklahoma City RedHawks – the new Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros – come to town for the 7:05pm opener of a four-game series. Mondays are Dollar Dog Nights, when hot dogs continue to be $1.00 at concession stands all season long. It will also mark the inaugural Money Monday, where fans can register to win prizes and experiences involving Sounds manager Don Money.

Tuesday night’s 7:05pm contest will be KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets, when fans will be able to bring in a KRAFT Singles package wrapper/proof of purchase to the box office for a Buy One Get One Free ticket offer.

The first day game of the season will take place on Wednesday afternoon with a 12:05pm contest with the visiting RedHawks at Greer Stadium. A new family-friendly promotion will debut in 2011 – Kids Eat Free Wednesdays. With paid admission, all kids 12 & under will receive a voucher for one free hot dog, one free small bag of chips, and free one soft drink.

The Sounds wrap up their eight-game homestand with another Taco Bell Throwback Thursday at 7:05pm at Greer Stadium. While the Sounds wear their retro 1980s-style uniforms, fans will continue to enjoy concession stands filled with discounted pricing, such as $2.00 beer, $2.00 soft drinks, $2.00 hot dogs, $2.00 popcorn, and $2.00 nachos. Gates open at 6:05pm.

Following the homestand, Nashville will embark on an eight-game road trip, beginning with the first-ever game at brand-new Werner Park, the new home of the newly-named division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers. The Sounds will finish the road trip with a four-game series at New Orleans before returning to Greer Stadium on Thursday, April 23rd to host an eight-game homestand against the Storm Chasers and Albuquerque Isotopes.
