Lady Govs Tennis hosts JSU for Senior Day

APSU Women’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s tennis closes the regular-season with a 1:30pm, Friday, match against Jacksonville State. Prior to the match, the Lady Govs will recognize Brittany Hays, the program’s only senior.

The Lady Govs have won back-to-back OVC matches, against Eastern Illinois and at Murray State. Sophomore Carolin Weikard has played especially well as of late, winning four of her last five matches at No. 2 singles. Along with junior Vanja Tomic, who dropped her first-ever OVC match against UT Martin, the Lady Govs have been strong at the top.

“Our win against Murray State really helped us,” Tabet said. “Our team is turning around and starting to realize that we can do something special. They see the results; they see those 4-3 matches and know those could’ve gone either way. We’re in better shape coming into the (season finale) than I expected.”

A key difference-maker for Austin Peay has been the play of its three freshmen – Kimberly Loo, Rachel Margolies and Andra Cornea. Loo has been the most reliable, with a 12-5 mark playing at Nos. 4 and 5, while also teaming with Weikard for a 6-1 No. 1 doubles mark.

Kimberly LooJSU women’s team has won three-straight matches and sits ahead of the Lady Govs, in second place, in the OVC race. Much like the Lady Govs, the Gamecocks return a pair of 2010 All-OVC picks in Martina Dessbesell and Viviane Marani, who play at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
