Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team had one bad inning Sunday afternoon, at Cheryl Holt Field, which led to it dropping the rubber-game of its three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Murray State, 14-3.
Austin Peay (9-30, 413 OVC) saw the Racers send 15 hitters to the plate in the second inning, while recording eight hits and four walks, against three Lady Govs pitchers in scoring the 11 runs.
Highlighting the inning was a grand-slam home run by the Racers (13-20, 6-10 OVC) Jenna Bradley, her 11th overall home run of the season. The Lady Govs got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, scoring one run, when junior Amy Mills drew a one-out walk, followed by back-to-back single by freshman Lauren de Castro and red-shirt sophomore Shelby Norton, with freshman Caitlyn Anderson driving in Mills with a two-out single.
Austin Peay would add two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Norton, scoring freshman Kayla Davidson, who lead off the inning by drawing a walk, and junior Catie Cozart – who singled.
Norton would finish the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Govs.
But Murray State responded with three final runs in the top of the fifth inning for the 14-3 final.
The Lady Govs return to action on Tuesday, April 12th, as they host Tennessee-Martin for a single OVC contest at Cheryl Holt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm.
