Governors add Indiana-product Carlson to 2012 squad

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head coach Gary McClure has announced Brett Carlson, of South Bend, IN, has signed a letter of intent.

Carlson, a 6-1 shortstop and pitcher, opened his 2011 season at Riley High School with a 3-for-3, four-RBI outing that included two home runs and a triple. He finished his junior campaign with a .321 batting average, 15 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Carlson was named to Rawlings Preseason All-Central Region Honorable Mention Team in March, recognizing him as one of the nation’s top prep prospects. In addition, he was ranked No. 10 among Indiana players by Prep Baseball Report in its most recent ranking. Carlson also was named to the 2010 and 2011 Under Armour Preseason All-America squads and was a 2010 Underclass Honorable Mention All-America selection by Perfect Game USA.

Last summer, Carlson played with American Legion Post 50 in South Bend where he had a .435 batting average with four home runs and 15 RBI. He also played club baseball with the Bayside Yankees, posting a .389 batting average in a five-game stint.
