Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team will have another chance to improve times when it hosts the Showdown on the Cumberland, 3:00pm, Friday, at Governors Stadium.

A tri-meet between Ohio Valley Conference rivals Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Murray State, the Showdown on the Cumberland will simulate a conference-championship type event complete with team scores. With the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on the horizon, the Showdown will be a chance for all three teams to race against more than just the clock.

“This is something we haven’t done before, but it will be good for all of us,” Lady Govs head coach Doug Molnar said. “Our team needed a chance to get some more races in and try to better some times before the conference meet. We’ve had a lot of personal records in the past few meets and have to keep that going.”

Field events begin at 3:00pm, with the javelin and pole vault followed by the high jump, triple jump and shot put. The Lady Govs have had plenty of personal success in the javelin and shot put lately. In fact, Courtney Jordan had a 37.05m personal best in the javelin, while Nicole Jamen had a 40.75m shot put, at last week’s Vanderbilt Invitational.

Track events begin with the 100m hurdles at 4 p.m., with the 800m run, 400m dash, 200m dash and 1500m-run to follow. The Lady Govs will have had great success with a young distance crew, but also are looking for good times in the sprints. The Showdown wraps up with the 4×400 meter relay as the finale.

At Vanderbilt, the Lady Govs three personal bests  in the 200-meter dash, led by Cenitra Hudson’s 22.54 time. In the 800m run, Xiamar Richards led the team with a 2:21.89 time, while Janelle Avery became the first Lady Govs runner to break the 11-minute mark in the 3000-meter run.

The Showdown on the Cumberland is a free event, open to the public.
