8 Year Old calls Police after being Left Alone

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On 5/1/11, around 4:30am, an 8 year old boy called 911 saying that he could not find his mother. He told the call taker that his mother had dropped him off at the residence and was taking someone home that did not know their way around town.

The child knew his mother’s first name but could not spell her last name. His mother had put a movie in for him to watch, but it had finished and she had not returned home yet. That’s when the 8 year old called Police.

When officers arrived, the child was alone in the house except for a couple of dogs. Officers were able to locate the mother and have her return home by calling her on a cell phone. The child had tried to call the mother earlier, but was unable to contact her.

As officers delved more into the case, they found the mother had dropped the 8 year old off at a babysitter around 8:00pm and picked him somewhere around 2:00am. She took the child to the house, put in a movie, and told him she would be back after dropping someone off. The approximate time the child was left alone was about 1 hour and 22 minutes.

The child was turned over to DCS for placement since there is no local family and the father is out of town.
