Activate the Month of May with Outdoor Recreation (ODR)

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Experience the outdoors and enjoy the warm weather while partaking in a number of fun, adventurous activities. Outdoor Recreation (ODR) has an endless array of adventure programs scheduled during the month of May.  Activities include mountain biking, dog hiking, rock wall climbing, canoeing, backpacking and more.

Adventure programs take place all month.  Programs are Family, children and Spouse oriented. 

Climbing activities are also scheduled for the month.  Never climbed before?  On May 3rd, ODR is having a climbing clinic from 4:00pm to 6:00pm to cover the basics of rock climbing. This class prepares participants on the basic knowledge of rock climbing.  Preregistration required by 2:00pm on May 3rd. Climbing 101 is available for those 14 and older. After tackling climbing 101, take a trip to Kings Bluff in downtown Clarksville and try a new climbing area designed for beginner to intermediate climbers. The climbing trip will take place on May 21st from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The cost is $25.00 and individuals 12 or older are welcome to attend. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on May 20th. 

Women in the Wilderness is a program designed for spouses to learn new skills and meet other wives in the process.  The program is hosting some exciting events in May that will utilize the four unique obstacles on the challenge course. Women in the Wilderness programs for this month include:

  • A teambuilding activity on the low ropes May 3rd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and May 5th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The cost is $7.00. 
  • Women in the Wilderness Climbing 101 on the rock wall will take place May 10th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and May 12th 10:00am to 12:00pm. The cost is $15,00. 
  • The Alpine Climb is another fun activity for active woman on May 17th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and May 19th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The cost is $15.00 for this particular climb. 
  • The Odyssey Experience will take place on May 24th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and May 26th from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  Women who would like to participate in the program’s events must be 18 or older. 

Travel with ODR to the lake and explore the coastline of Land Between the Lakes, one of the largest, most beautiful recreational areas in mid Tennessee/Kentucky. May 7th; a canoe and kayak trip for ages 8 and older will take place from 9:00am to 4:00pm and all equipment is provided for the cost of $15.00. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on May 6th.

Not into water sports?  How about climbing, hiking and/or biking? Those interested in mountain biking get a chance to unite with other bikers on May 9th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The mountain bike meet-up is FREE if you have your own bike.  If you do not have your own bike, rent one from ODR for the low cost of $5.00. Whether you are a beginner, are
experienced, or just want to meet other bikers, all are welcome to partake. Preregistration is required by 2:00pm on May 9th. 

Dog lovers unite on May 14th at 11:00am on the trails near the ODR building. Come on out and give your pooch the opportunity to meet other pups while enjoying a fun-filled hike in the woods. The cost for this activity is $2.00 and preregistration is required by May 13th at 4:00pm.  

Starting May 20th, ODR is hosting an Outdoor Adventure Film Series which will feature a monthly film related to the outdoors, and will continue throughout summer and fall. Check with Outdoor Recreation or the MWR Facebook page for the film of the month. All attending will meet at the Challenge Course Complex at 7:00pm. The cost to view the film is $5.00 per person and preregistration is required by 4:00pm on the 20th.

The Family floats canoe trip is a Family oriented adventure and is a great way for the Family to spend some time together. The trip covers a stretch of the Cumberland River and will be a super fun canoe ride. Transportation and equipment is provided. The trip takes place on May 25th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The cost is $5.00 per person and all children in attendance must be at least 2 years old of age.  Preregistration is required by 2:00pm on May 25th. 

Active individuals get away on a mini vacation and go backpacking in the Smoky Mountains on May 27th-30th. It’s the perfect get away.  The great Smoky Mountains bordering Tennessee and North Carolina are among some of the most beautiful in the U.S. The spectacular scenery makes the 13 mile hike that much more enjoyable. During the trip we will travel past sections of the Appalachian Trail, see 1,000-foot cliff lines, and traverse through creeks. This trip will be a 3-day, 3-night camping trip. Everyone will be carrying their own food, water, and equipment. The cost is $175.00 per person and preregistration is required. Call and register early, as this opportunity will go fast.

Check with Outdoor Recreation or the MWR Facebook page for the film of the month.  All attending will meet at the Challenge Course Complex at 7:00pm. The cost to view the film is $5.00 per person and preregistration is required by 4:00pm on the 20th.

Outdoor Recreation also does customized private trips for units or Family Readiness Groups (FRGs). Trip registration can be done in person or over the phone, seven days a week, between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm. Locations and times of trips are subject to change due to weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for each event.

Cancellations initiated by the participant 48 hours in advance of the trip are entitled to a full refund. However, refunds for cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will be determined by management.

Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to postpone, alter, or cancel any trip.
