Red River Sirens Make Debut

Red River Sirens - Clarksville, TennesseeClarksville, TN – Saturday night, Clarksville’s very own Red River Sirens made their debut against the Sintral Florida Derby Demons at Magic Wheels Skating Rink.

They had great attendance as people packed in to watch these women on roller skates race around the track doing their thing.  Each team has a Jammer and they set out to lap members of the opposing team.  Roller Derby has actually been around for many years and was very popular in the 1970’s becoming a form of sports entertainment.

The Sirens looked great in their first bout against a team that has been together for 4 years.  Although the Sintral Florida Derby Demons won the bout this time around, the Red River Sirens plan to come back strong and bring home a win for their fans.

Part of the proceeds from the bout went to benefit Companion Pet Rescue, a shelterless rescue organization, to help with dog and puppy food, blankets, towels, kennels and crates.

The Companion Pet Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Fans have the opportunity to watch the Roller Derby from many different areas around the rink.  There is the normal seating for fans behind the walls which can prevent getting run over by the skaters. There is also the V.I.P. Seating along one end of the track and then there is the suicide seating at the far end of the track that is limited to anyone 18 year old and up.

Be sure to follow the Red River Sirens on facebook or on their website for other events and appearances.

Roller derby, a sport originating in America, enjoyed huge popularity in the 1970s when the game was known for its hard-hitting action and reputation for staged antics. Today’s game involves higher levels of strategy, physical endurance and athleticism, and is regaining popularity all over the country. Clarksville Roller Derby League is run entirely by volunteers, and operates under the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.
