Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Sophomore shortstop Reed Harper, of the Austin Peay baseball team, has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Reed HarperHarper, of Clarksville, extended his hitting streak to 22 games with six hits – two in each game – and six RBI as the Govs swept a three-game set from Tennessee Tech, last weekend.

Saturday’s series opener was a roller-coaster affair as Harper committed a costly error that allowed Tennessee Tech to force extra innings but bounced back with a game-winning RBI double in the 10th. He followed that with a 2-for-3 effort in the nightcap, including an RBI single in the fifth.

Harper extended his hit streak in Sunday’s series finale with emphasis as he hit a two-run home run in the first inning. He finished the day 2-for-5 with two RBI.

In addition to his 22-game hitting streak, Harper has a hit in 16 consecutive OVC contests. He is batting a team best .420 in conference play and also leads the team with 10 doubles and 18 RBI.

Harper is the fifth Governors player to receive adidas OVC weekly honors. Freshman second baseman Jordan Hankins and junior pitcher Zach Toney swept the league’s opening week honors. Senior pitcher Ryne Harper, Reed’s brother, and sophomore first baseman John Hogan earned a share of last week’s honors.

Austin Peay returns to action with a 7:00pm, Wednesday contest at Evansville. The Govs, who sit atop the OVC standings with two weekends remaining, then return home for a critical three-game OVC series against second-place Southeast Missouri. That series begins with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader.
