Clarksville Police Department Adds Another Crime Fighting Tool

Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety – (DDACTS)

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is adding another tool to its wide array of crime fighting strategies.  Its call DDACTS (D-DAX), the acronym stands for Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety.

It’s a dual front approach to attack high incidences of crime and crashes through targeted traffic enforcement strategies. Areas which are determined to have a high crime and crash incidences, through statistical analysis, are saturated with highly visible traffic enforcement.

Analyzing crime and placing resources in problem areas are not a new concept. But, utilizing the concept that crimes often involve the use of vehicles coupled with the deterrence afforded by highly visible traffic enforcement provide a powerful crime-fighting capability.

DDACTS also works from the approach of community-oriented law enforcement that suggests time and place-based policing as opposed to person-based policing is more efficient, stable, and has a stronger evidence based method to accurately target crime-fighting efforts.

To simplify the entire concept of DDACTS, let’s sum it up:

  1. Locations of high incidents of crime or traffic crashes are statistically identified.
  2. Traffic enforcement will be stepped up in the identified areas.
  3. A statistical analysis will be performed to determine effectiveness.
  4. Whether additional courses of action are necessary.

Additionally, we will be utilizing both marked and unmarked patrol cars when performing DDACTS.

One of the areas which DDACTS is underway is the Hazelwood Subdivision. There have been 15 residential burglaries since January.
