Hogan named adidas OVC Player of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityJohn HoganBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay sophomore first baseman John Hogan had three home runs in four games last week and was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference “Player of the Week,” Monday.

Hogan, of St. Louis, MO, finished the week with a .353 batting average (6-of-17) with three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base. He opened the week with a leadoff home run in a 1-for-4 effort at Evansville.

Hogan loomed particularly large in the Govs 2-1 OVC series victory against Southeast Missouri that clinched the regular-season title. He opened the series with a 2-for-4 outing, his sixth-inning home run sparking a game-tying rally. Hogan wrapped up the week with a three-run home run in the series finale that put the Govs ahead for good. He later added a RBI single in the seventh that provided the Govs’ final run and completed a 2-for-4, four-RBI outing.

Hogan did not strikeout during the week with 17 at-bats to his credit and did not commit an error in 33 chances. He also extended his personal-best hit streak to 14 games.

Hogan is the first Governors player to receive multiple adidas OVC honors this season, after winning the Player of the Week honor, May 4th. Four other Govs have received a weekly award this season: sophomore shortstop Reed Harper (May 11th), senior pitcher Ryne Harper (May 4th), freshman second baseman Jordan Hankins (February 21st) and junior pitcher Zach Toney (February 21st).

Austin Peay returns to action with a 6:00pm. Tuesday contest at Lipscomb.
