Sounds Lose Finale To RedHawks, 3-2

Nashville Takes Three Of Four In Series Against Oklahoma City

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – A ninth-inning rally came up just short as the Nashville Sounds had their season-best four-game winning streak come to a close with a 3-2 loss to the Oklahoma City RedHawks on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the finale of a four-game series.

Trailing 3-0 entering the ninth, the Sounds put a pair of runs on the board but couldn’t complete the comeback and suffered their Pacific Coast League-leading 15th one-run defeat of the year.

Despite the loss, Nashville (21-29) took three of the four games from the RedHawks in the series.

Second baseman Edwin Maysonet went 2-for-4 to account for Nashville’s lone multiple-hit effort on the evening.

Oklahoma City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Tommy Manzella drew a one-out walk from Sounds starter Sam Narron and later scored the game’s first run on a Max Ramirez groundout.

RedHawks center fielder Brandon Barnes upped the visitors’ lead to 3-0 in the second when he slugged his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left-center that struck the neck of the guitar-shaped scoreboard. Drew Locke, who had opened the frame with a double, also scored on the blast.

In a spot start, left-hander Andy Van Hekken worked four scoreless innings for Oklahoma City, allowing only two singles while striking out six batters.

RedHawks reliever Wesley Wright (1-0) followed Van Hekken with two scoreless innings of his own to pick up the victory.

The Sounds broke up the Oklahoma City shutout bid in the bottom of the ninth, as Brett Carroll and Jeremy Reed opened the frame with back-to-back doubles off RedHawks reliever Fernando Abad.

After Abad struck out Mat Gamel for the first out, right-hander David Carpenter came on to retire Maysonet on a popup before Mike Rivera stroked a two-out RBI single up the middle to plate Reed to make it a 3-2 contest. Carpenter then induced a game-ending groundout from Taylor Green to preserve the narrow win and earn his third save.

Narron (3-2) allowed three runs on four hits over five frames of action, walking one batter and striking out five, to take the loss and snap his personal three-game winning streak.

Outfielder Erick Almonte went 0-for-3 in seven innings of action on the evening and is hitting .286 (2-for-7) through three games on his rehabilitation assignment with Nashville.

The Sounds continue their homestand on Tuesday evening by welcoming the division-rival Iowa Cubs to town for the 7:05pm opener of a four-game series. It will be the first of 16 meetings between the clubs this season. Right-hander Amaury Rivas (3-4, 4.12) will man the bump for Nashville to face Iowa right-hander Casey Coleman, who will make his first Triple-A appearance of the year.
