June’s First Thursday ArtWalk

downtown-logoClarksville, TN – You’re invited to join the merchants of Historic Downtown Clarksville for the monthly Art Walk, which will be held this month on June 2nd, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Kendall Welsh from ARTifacts sent us this information about June’s artistic extravaganza.

Participating merchants include ARTifacts Emporium, The Framemaker, Hodgepodge, the L&N Train Station, The Peg Harvill Gallery in the Roxy Regional Theatre, and the APSU Downtown Gallery

Participating artists include Travis Childers, Rachel Wainwright, Dorothy Thomason, Gail Meyer, Leah Foote and more.

The Austin Peay Downtown Gallery

Austin Peay Downtown Art GalleryThe Austin Peay Downtown Gallery presents the “The History of Things”, a solo exhibition by Travis Childers. Childers is a Washington DC artist and an alum of APSU ( class of 1995 ).

ARTifacts Emporium

ARTifacts Emporium LogoRachel Wainwright, creator of Previously A Plate says “Old dishes are a work of art and I love to make them into wearable pieces.  They are cut from old English transferware or ironstone and are as unique as the places I find them.  Do you have a piece from an ancestor just gathering dust in your china closet?  Bring it down to ARTifacts and let me make it into something special to wear for you and your loved ones.  Come to ART walk on Thursday and watch me work!”

Kelly Peters of Darling Pottery will also be featured at ARTifacts.  Kelly has been with ARTifacts for several months now, and continues to wonderful pottery with our customers.

Downtown Artist Co-Op

Downtown Artists Co-op will be opening a new exhibit called “Creative Musings”.  The exhibit is a collaboration of four artists:  Cliff Whittaker, Richard Hogan, Gail Meyer. and Dorothy Thomason.  Cliff has spent this spring season putting together a series of 12 large photographs emphasizing the beauty of nature in Rotary Park; Richard Hogan has been working diligently on producing a series of large and beautifully colorful paintings in his “dream-land” style; Gail Meyer is planning to have one of her large “umbrella” paintings as the centerpiece for her work which will be surrounded by a series of new paintings produced specifically for this show; and Dorothy Thomason will have a series of her lifelike watercolor paintings and amazingly detailed scratchboard art.  As usual, the reception begins at 5:00 p.m. at the DAC gallery and we plan to have a fun evening.

The Framemaker

The Framemaker proudly presents an exhibit by artist Jared Lee Cleghorn as part of Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk. An opening reception will be held on from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Jared Lee Cleghorn was born in California and currently lives and works in Clarksville, Tenn. He received a bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Austin Peay State University. Jared’s exhibit, entitled, “Cosmographia,” is a series of collages influenced by the his interest in science. Jared states, “In this series I wanted to liberate the wonderful splendor and mysticism of science by expressing its ideas and findings through works of art.”

The Framemaker is located at the corner of North Second Street and Georgia Avenue, across from the Clarksville Academy.

Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge will feature four artists showing their work publicy for the first time.  Join us to meet the artists, Martha Fydenkevez, the matriarch; Vicky Clinard, her daughter; and great-grandsons, Austin Rittenberry and Zachary Clinard.  It’s a family art affair!

Ingredients

Ingredients will hosting Heather Noble of Covered with Icing and Carol and Kalena of KC’s Handcrafted Designs: The heart is in the hands. Heather has taken classes with some of the most sought after instructors in the business including Roland Mesnier, the White House pastry chef; Michelle Bommarito, Bronwen Weber, Lauren Kitchens, The Sweet Southern Ladies, and others seen on the Food Network and TLC. She is turning out wonderful custom specialty cakes and wedding cakes all over the greater Nashville area, with several per month in Clarksville.

Carol and Kalena are KC’s Handcrafted Designs and they create and quill handmade greeting cards, jewelry, invitations, announcements and other special order items. Their mission is to put heart into everything they do with their hands. From a small charm for a child’s bracelet, to an elegant pendant for your loved one, to an artfully crafted paper design fit for framing, KC’s puts love, attention and true craftsmanship into every creation.

L&N Train Station

Austin Peay State University President Tim Hall will read from his book about marriage, “The Labor of Love” at 5:30 p.m. at the L & N Train Station, where art historian and quilter Dr. Dixie Webb is also exhibiting her quilts.

The Arts and Heritage Development Council and Montgomery County Historical Society are teaming up to offer this artistic exploration of Clarksville’s heritage as an extra element for First Thursday ArtWalk.

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery will feature the work of Leah Foote, while students from the Roxy’s School of the Arts showcase their talents on the mainstage in BIG RIVER: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn at 6pm.Rogate’s Boutique
