APSU names new director of community/business relations

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The executive assistant to the president at Austin Peay State University has been named director of APSU Community and Business Relations.

Carol Clark began her new duties June 1st, adding the responsibilities of director to her current position as executive assistant to the president.

As director, Clark will serve as a principal liaison between the University and business and community contacts in Clarksville-Montgomery County and middle Tennessee generally.

“She has already undertaken this work informally, and I expect her new title and responsibilities to expand her opportunities to serve the university in this area,” President Tim Hall said.

Clark succeeds Kim McMillan, who became mayor of Clarksville in January 2011.

Clark has been executive assistant to the president at APSU since 2005 and previously served as director of the Tennessee Small Business Development Center. She earned a Master of Arts in communication in 2005 and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a management concentration in 1997, both from APSU.

She is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Middle Tennessee and a member of the Leadership Clarksville Class of 2001.

At APSU, Clark serves on the President’s Cabinet and President’s Circle of Advisers. She chairs the Military Education Task Force, Athletic Promotions Committee and the Commencement Committee and serves as the coordinator of the local and regional P-16 councils.

She co-chaired a team that successfully petitioned the state of Tennessee to establish the Governor’s School for Computational Physics at APSU, served on the research and planning team for the Middle College at APSU, and was primary author of the successful proposal to host the 2006 Tennessee Titans Training Camp at the University.

In addition, Clark is public relations officer and past secretary of the APSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi national honor society and a member of the APSU Tower Club.

In the community, she is secretary of the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Area, an active volunteer with the Rivers and Spires festival and a member of the Fort Campbell USO Advisory Committee. She also is a member of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce, of which she serves on the Membership Services Committee.
