Bundy, Sarbaugh to lead PCL, IL in 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game

Triple-A BaseballAll Star GameRound Rock, TX – Lorenzo Bundy, first-year manager of the Pacific Coast League’s Albuquerque Isotopes, and Mike Sarbaugh, second-year manager of the Columbus Clippers of the International League, have been named managers of their respective league’s All-Star teams for the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game.

The game, presented by Zions Banks and Workers Compensation Fund, will air live on MLB Network on Wednesday, July 13th from Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah, home of the PCL’s Salt Lake Bees.

Bundy, 51, is in his sixth season overall serving as a manager or coach in the PCL. His prior stints in the league were at the helm of the Las Vegas 51s, then the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, from 2007 to 2008 and occupying the role of hitting instructor for the Tucson Sidewinders, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, from 2004 to 2006. The Pennsylvania native has also spent six seasons as a coach in the Major Leagues, with his most recent season being in 2009 when he was the first base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Tommy Gregg of the Omaha Storm Chasers and Rich Gale of the Nashville Sounds will serve as coaches on Bundy’s All-Star staff. Gregg, 47, is in his third season as the hitting coach for Omaha and fifth overall in the Kansas City organization. A veteran of nine Major League seasons, Gregg was the hitting coach for the Memphis Redbirds from 2002 to 2006 before joining the Kansas City organization. The 2011 season marks Gale’s second season with the Nashville Sounds and fourth season overall as a coach in the PCL after spending two years with the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2007 and 2008. Prior to joining the Milwaukee organization in 2010, the former Major League pitcher was the pitching coach for Single-A Hagerstown and the IL’s Syracuse Chiefs in the Washington Nationals system in 2009.

Saurbaugh, 44, was named 2010 Manager of the Year by Baseball America after he guided the Columbus Clippers to an International League title and Triple-A National Championship in his first season as a manager at the Triple-A level. Saurbaugh is in his 22nd season within the Cleveland Indians organization, which includes five as a player, nine as a hitting coach and eight as a manager. Including last season’s IL championship, the Pennsylvania native has led four teams to their respective league’s championships as a manager.

Dean Treanor, manager of the Indianapolis Indians, and Rich Dotson, pitching coach of the Charlotte Knights, fill out the International League All-Star coaching staff. Treanor, 64, has been a Minor League instructor for 24 seasons, including six seasons as a manager with the PCL’s Calgary Cannons (2002) and Albuquerque Isotopes (2003; 2005-2008). Treanor is in his first season as manager of Indianapolis after serving as the team’s pitching coach in 2010. Treanor was also the manager of the 2007 PCL All-Star team in Albuquerque. Dotson, 52, is in his fourth season as a pitching coach with the Charlotte Knights and 10th overall in the Chicago White Sox farm system. Dotson pitched for the White Sox for much of his playing career, where he was named an American League All-Star in 1984.

The athletic trainer for the PCL All-Star squad is Brian Reinker, who is in his fourth year with the Salt Lake Bees and ninth season overall within the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim farm system. For the International League, Mike Graus will serve as the athletic trainer. Graus is in his sixth season with the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate and 19th overall in the Atlanta organization.
