Dunbar Cave State Natural Area Programs for July 10th through July 16th

Clarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer.

Upcoming events include: Evening Trail Hike, Fossil Fun, Bugs Slugs and Other Uugs, Fun with Bats and so much more!

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the deadline listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline are canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children). The age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program. Call 931.648.5526 for reservations.

Sunday, July 10th

Fossil Fun

Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Ages: 5 to adult

Learn about the neat things from the seas of many years ago that can be found in your own backyard. 

Program Leader:  Jerrod Manning, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger

Evening Trail Hike

Time: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
Ages: All ages

This time of day is great for seeing wildlife such as deer as we walk the Recovery Trail (2 miles).

Monday, July 11th

Wildflower Hike

Time: 10:00am – 11:30am
Ages: 10-Adult

Learn the names and lore of the flowers on this hike to the cave and along the lake.

Reservations By: 4:30pm July 9th.

Tuesday, July 12th

GPS – Find Your Way Around

Time: 10:00am – 11:30am
Ages: 8 to adult

Never get lost!  Learn to use GPS and maps, then find your way on our course.

Wednesday, July 13th

Bugs, Slugs and Other Uugs

Time: 10:00am – 11:30am
Ages: 3 – 12

Lets look for the creepy crawlies that hide under rocks and logs!

Thursday, July 14th

Animals of the Forest

Time: 9:00am – 10:30am
Ages: 5-12

Squirrels, chipmunks, deer … Some of the animals that we will look for on this hike through the trees.

Fun With Bats

Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Ages: 5 – 11

Learn about the fun furry creatures that sleep in the cave and fly around at night.

Friday, July 15th

Insects of Swan Lake

Time: 10:00am – 11:00am
Ages: 5-adult

Wear your old clothes and shoes, and squish around in the mud of Swan Lake as we look for dragonflies, water striders, boatmen, and other insects that live in or near the water.

Full Moon Lunacy

Time: 8:00pm – 9:15pm
Ages: 5-adult

The full moon is rumored to cause strange things to happen.  Learn about the moon and watch a moonrise.
