Sounds Come Back To Score Three In The Ninth, Win 6-4 In Reno

Nashville SoundsReno, NV – The Nashville Sounds scored six unanswered runs in a come-from-behind, 6-4 victory over the Reno Aces on Monday night at Aces Ballpark, highlighted by a go-ahead, two-run homer by Taylor Green in the top of the ninth inning.

Entering the ninth trailing 4-3, outfielder Logan Schafer singled off pitcher Sam Demel to lead off the frame and advanced to second on a Lucas May passed ball. Schafer would then score the tying run as Eric Farris ripped an RBI single over the second baseman’s head into right field. Green followed by hammering a two-run homer down the right field line for his 20th of the season.

The win was Nashville’s (58-59) ninth come-from-behind victory when trailing in the 7th inning of later this season and 12th last at-bat win.

Schafer, Green and Jordan Brown all had two hits in the game, while Mat Gamel extended his hitting streak to eight games with a hit in the ninth.

The Aces batted around and scored all four runs on Sounds starter Sam Narron in the bottom of the second, who threw 34 pitches in the frame. May doubled home former Sounds outfielder Cole Gillespie for the first run. A two-out RBI double from pitcher Barry Enright, followed by RBI singles by Evan Frey and Mark Hallberg accounted for the club’s other runs for an early 4-0 advantage.

Narron worked a leadoff walk to open the third inning and moved to second as Schafer bunted a perfectly-place grounder down the third base line. Narron advanced to third on a Brown groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly when Farris belted a fly ball to center field.

Martin Maldonado brought the Sounds within one run at 4-3 in the next inning, as the backstop blasted an opposite-field two-run homer over the right field wall. Edwin Maysonet reached earlier in the frame after being hit by a pitch from Enright and scored on Maldonado’s third homer in his last four games.

Narron surrendered four runs in five innings pitched, all in the second inning. The tall left-hander also gave up hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

In his first game since coming off the disabled list, right-hander Sean Green struck out two in a scoreless inning. For a third consecutive day, right-hander Donovan Hand pitched a scoreless appearance. Zack Segovia (5-3) picked up the win while adding a perfect inning. Randy Flores worked around a hit while striking out two to notch his first save of the season.

Enright tossed a quality start in a no-decision, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. Demel (0-3) took home the blown save and loss with three runs in the ninth.

The Sounds and Aces continue their four-game series at 9:05pm CT on Tuesday night at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander Mike Fiers (4-0, 1.73) will take the mound for Nashville and face Reno right-hander Kevin Mulvey (3-5, 6.98).
