Pedestrian Hit while crossing Fort Campbell Boulevard

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On August 23rd, 2011 around 2:23pm, a 49 year old pedestrian was hit while crossing the southbound lanes of the 1400 Block of Fort Campbell Boulevard.

The 49 year old male had left the Family Dollar store, 1440 Fort Campbell Boulevard, walking east to cross the southbound lanes of traffic.

The first two southbound lanes slowed down to allow the pedestrian to cross, but James D. Scott, 63, of Hopkinsville, KY driving a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass, in the third southbound lane did not see the pedestrian walk into his lane of travel. The Oldsmobile hit the pedestrian.

The impact caused the pedestrian to leave his feet, travel over the hood of the car, collide and penetrate the windshield, and enter the interior of the  vehicle with his body. Emergency responders removed the man from the interior of the vehicle and transported him by Lifeflight to Vanderbilt. As of 5:20pm, the man was in extremely critical condition with multiple injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the driver.

The investigation is ongoing. The lead investigator is Officer Melissa Spielhagen.
