Fall Sports Fan set for Sunday at APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A free Fall Sports Fan Day for Austin Peay State University’s athletics department is scheduled for Sunday at the Dunn Center.

Fans will have a chance to meet and greet Austin Peay’s football team, as well as, women’s soccer and volleyball, and the men and women’s cross country teams.

Fan Day begins at 3:00pm, with a special introduction by Governors Club President David Loos. Head football coach Rick Christophel also is slated to give fans an exclusive preview of his 2011 team.

Fans then will have an opportunity to get free schedule posters and autographs from football, soccer and volleyball.

The football Govs are set to open the 2011 season, next weekend, at Cincinnati, with the home opener schedule for September 24th against Eastern Kentucky. Fans are encouraged to take advantage of free pregame fun at Tailgate Alley, prior to every Governors home game.

Austin Peay women’s soccer team was picked to finish third in the OVC’s preseason poll and has opened the season 2-0. Led by sophomore Tatiana Ariza – a member of the 2011 Colombian World Cup team – who was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the Lady Govs have scored 18 goals through their first two games.

Looking to repeat at Ohio Valley Conference champions, the Lady Govs volleyball team opens their season with matches at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash at the University of Alabama, Friday and Saturday. Highlighting returning players is OVC Tournament MVP and APSU Female Athlete of the Year Nikki Doyle. Fans also are invited to meet new head coach Bill Egbert, formerly an assistant at Ole Miss.
