New Mayor’s Youth Council members selected

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – The Mayor’s Youth Council members have been chosen for the 2011-2012 school year. 

The new Youth Council includes Deven Andrews, Jacob Apelt, Kasey Blackmon, Camille Brown, Caitlin Campbell, David Degon, Cavelle Gonga, Alyssa Hedman, Brinda Patel, Myles Pearson, Georgie Roth, Lauren Stanley, Larsa Summerville, Ashley Williams, Amber Woods and Drake Young.

The Youth Council’s first meeting will be at 6:00pm Tuesday, September 13th, at the Parks & Recreation Office on Public Square.  The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month during their term, which runs from September to May. 

The Mayor’s Youth Council provides an opportunity for the youth of Clarksville to acquire a greater knowledge and appreciation for the political system through active participation in City government. The members help keep City leaders informed about the needs and wishes of local youth, while helping to plan and implement social, educational, cultural and recreational activities for youth. The group also will work on a civic project throughout the year, and they volunteer at various city events.

In order to serve on the Mayor’s Youth Council, the youth must be between 14 and 16, and a resident of Montgomery County for at least one year. Members must also attend at least 70 percent of all Youth Council meetings and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
