The Clarksville Parks and Rec Report for September 11th

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

Youth Basketball League

Is your child interested in playing basketball this winter? The youth league is open to ages 7 to 17 and costs $55 per player. This fee covers the department’s costs for jerseys, officials, awards and equipment. Player evaluations will be held October 24 for youth ages 7 to 10 and on October 25 for youth ages 11 to 17. Players will be drafted onto teams on October 27. New registrants must bring their birth certificate for age verification.

Registration begins September 19 and ends October 17. New this year, registration can be completed online from the comfort of your home at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. Registration can also be done at the Kleeman, Crow and Burt Cobb Community Centers, as well as at the Parks & Recreation Main Office located at 102 Public Square. The Main Office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Practices begin November 1 and games begin December 3. If you’re more interested in a leadership role on the court, Parks & Recreation is also seeking Youth League coaches. All interested coaches may contact Tina Boysha at the Parks & Recreation Main Office.

Jammin’ in the Alley & Night Market

The City of Clarksville, together with U.S. Bank, will be Jammin’ in Strawberry Alley on Friday, September 16, and it will once again feature vendors from Clarksville’s weekly Downtown Market. Vendors will be set up from 5 to 8 p.m., and the free concert featuring August Christopher will begin at 7 p.m. In addition to the live music and market vendors, downtown restaurants will offer outdoor dining for Jammin’ in the Alley and night market patrons.

Adult Volleyball Interest Meeting

Adults interested in playing in an adult volleyball league are encouraged to attend an interest meeting scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 13 at the Kleeman Community Center.

Stroller Time makes a return to the Clarksville Greenway

Calling all parents and children! Join us every Tuesday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Clarksville Greenway for “stroller time.” This free program allows for interactions while exercising in a beautiful environment. Stroller time will meet at the Pollard Road trailhead, located at 1101 Pollard Road, for five weeks beginning September 20.

Archery is back!

Kleeman Community Center will begin offering two archery classes for youth grades 4-12. A beginner class will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. and an advanced class will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday nights. The four week session will begin October 3 and cost is $10 per student.

Bark in the Park

Bring your 4-legged family members for a day of contest, demonstrations, prizes and more at our Fall Bark Park event. The event will take place October 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bark Park located at Heritage Park. Businesses that promote dog-related programs, services and products are encouraged to apply by visiting the Parks and Recreation Office at 102 Public Square or going online to www.cityofclarksville.com to download a form. Applications must be received by October 3.
