Lady Govs much improved in first round of MSU tourney

APSU Sports: Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsLedbetter, KY – Austin Peay women’s golf team displayed much improvement, Monday morning, in the first round of the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational, but still found itself in seventh place heading into the day’s second round.

The tourney is being played on the par 72, 6178-yard Drake Creek Golf Club.

Junior college transfer Lauren Bond fired a 75 for the Lady Govs top Monday morning round while sophomore Rachel Deaton had APSU’s sub-80 score with a 79. As a team the Lady Govs were at 314, much improved over their rain-marred 331–the tourney’s only round–in Alabama last week.

Host Murray State fired a 295, followed by Morehead State at 302 and Eastern Kentucky at 307 in the 10-team tournament.

APSU’s other counting scores were sophomores Tala Mumford and Tabitha Beard with 80s, while freshman Marta Gutierrez had an 81.

Individually, senior Ashley Averitt was at 81 while freshman Meghan Mueller fired an 82 followed by Holly Batey with an 85.

The tourney’s second round was to be completed Monday afternoon, with the final being completed Tuesday.
