APSU Lady Govs Volleyball falls at Morehead State

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will return home from “Death Valley” winless after dropping a four-set (16-25, 25-21, 20-25, 17-25) decision to Morehead State, Saturday, in Ohio Valley Conference action at Wetherby Gym.

Austin Peay (2-11, 0-2 OVC) had trouble maintaining a consistent offensive effort, recording just 41 kills in the match and posting a meager .140 attack percentage. The Lady Govs outhit the Eagles in the second set, using 12 kills and a .258 attack percentage to post their only set win, 25-21.

Morehead State (7-5, 2-0) had no such offensive problems, scoring 59 kills and doubling Austin Peay’s offensive efficiency with a .286 attack percentage. The Eagles hit .200 or better in each of their three set wins.

Nikki DoyleAfter opening conference play with a sub-par outing at Eastern Kentucky, junior outside hitter Nikki Doyle bounced back and led Austin Peay with 12 kills. Senior outside hitter Ilyanna Hernandez followed up a season-best outing at EKU with 11 kills. Sophomore Lauren Henderson posted seven kills and a team-best seven blocks.

Emma Keough and Ellie Roberson each had 14 kills to lead Morehead State’s offensive effort. Laura McDermott added eight kills and a team-best seven blocks.

With its season-opening 13 match roadtrip now behind it, Austin Peay will open the home portion of its conference schedule with 7:00pm, Friday contest against Eastern Illinois.
