Yator led the Govs with an 11th-place finish, completing the eight-kilometer course in 26:32. Kennesaw State’s Nabil Hamid won the men’s race with a time of 25:39. Georgia won the team event with a score of 27 points. Austin Peay finished behind Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech, which finished fifth (159 points).

“The day’s highlight was Yator’s performance,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “He had a solid race today. Georgia and Georgia State are two of the top teams in the region and he ran up there with them. He did an outstanding job.”

Boniface YatorJunior Geofrey Kosgei followed Yator in 38th place with a time of 27:44. Junior Konnor Kessler finished 43rd (27:58), sophomore Tyler Kepley (67th, 29:01) and sophomore Genaro Martinez (80th, 29:53) rounded out the Govs scoring effort. Freshman David Frattarelli (86th, 30:45) also ran for the Govs.

“We ran a little better than last week as a team,” said Molnar. “The restults don’t show it because the competition was much better. Our only disappointment was losing to Tennessee Tech. My concern was with Geofrey’s performance, he faded badly late in the race. We’ll take the next two weeks to get a handle on that and get ready for our next race.”

Austin Peay returns to action in two weeks at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, October 1st.
