Louisville, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team will hit the course after two weeks of rest when it travels to Kentucky for the 2011 Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic’s 11:30am, Saturday, five-kilometer race, at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park.
The Lady Govs will be led by sophomore Xiamar Richards and junior Chantelle Grey. Richards has finished no worse than 28th in a race this season, including a victory at the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial. Grey has continued to improve with each race. Her top performance also came at Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial, with a 17th-place finish.“We are really starting to make progress,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “Overall we are a lot healthier and I think our gaps will be tighter between Richards and the rest of the team.”
Plenty of competition will exist for the Lady Govs as they race in a 37-team field. That field includes Ohio Valley Conference rivals Morehead State, UT Martin, SIU-Edwardsville, Murray State, and Southeast Missouri. Other notable schools included in the race are East Tennessee, Purdue, South Florida, Western Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.
