Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team is set for its third fall tournament, the CSU Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State at Canterbury Golf Club, beginning Monday.

Canterbury is a course rich with tradition, having hosted a number of major tournaments including the U.S. Amateur, the U.S. Open and the PGA Championships. Located about ten miles south of Cleveland, Ohio, Canterbury is known for its difficult terrain and well-located hazards.

“They guys are looking forward to playing a course with such tradition,” head coach Kirk Kayden said. “We’ve been playing well and we want to carry that momentum to Cleveland State.”

It will be a perfect challenge for a Govs golf team that has shown continued improvement over its first two events. At the UK Fall Invitational, the Govs finished fifth led by sophomore Trey Tarpley’s third-place finish. Last week, at Louisville’s Cardinal Intercollegiate, the Govs overcame an eight-shot penalty after a scorecard error to finish ninth.

Anthony BradleyThis week, Kayden has the experience of sophomores Anthony Bradley, Marco Iten and Tarpley who all played Canterbury, last season, at this event. Bradley shot 75-71 to finish 11th, while Iten shot 73-78 and Tarpley carded a first-round 76. Austin Peay had its season-best finish as well, placing third in the rain-shortened tournament.

Also in the lineup for the Govs in junior Dustin Korte, who has two of his five rounds under par this season. Korte was named Ohio Valley Conference co-Golfer of the Week after a t-15th at the Cardinal Intercollegiate. Freshman Tucker Wallace is making his season’s first appearance as well.

Dustin Korte“This will be Tucker’s first collegiate event,” Kayden said. “We’re confident that he can be consistent for us. He’s played well the first month and he deserves to be here.”

For the first time this season, APSU is the only OVC team in the field. Oakland, St. Bonaventure, Youngstown State, South Dakota State, North Dakota, Wofford, Loyola and Appalachian State highlight the 15-team field.
