Nashville Heart Walk raises record $1.5 million-plus

American Heart AssociationNashville, TN – The 2011 Nashville Heart Walk held last Saturday raised more than $1.5 million, an all-time high for the event.

Participants of all ages filled the sports field at Vanderbilt and enjoyed the many festivities in the morning, and followed Nashville Mayor Karl Dean as he kicked off Walk Nashville Week leading the Heart Walk under a picture-perfect sunny sky. More than ten thousand walkers filled the 5K walk route along Natchez Trace, West End Avenue, 21st Avenue South and Children’s Way.

The American Heart Association wishes to express its sincere gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community. Funds raised will go to research, education and community outreach programs to fight the No. 1 killer of men and women, cardiovascular disease, which kills 1 in 3 Americans.

Those who still want to donate to the Heart Walk may do so until the end of the month, at www.nashvilleheartwalk.org.
