Ryan Named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityJake RyanClarksville, TN – Jake Ryan, a junior on the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The arm of the junior quarter back helped carry the Governors to a come from behind victory over Tennessee State, Saturday. The Knoxville native threw for two touchdowns and a career-high 314 yards on 21-of-41 passing. Included in his totals was a 72-yard strike to Darryl Clack to open the third quarter, bringing the Govs within seven points.

For his efforts the junior was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s “Co-Offensive Player of the Week,” with Southeast Missouri’s Matt Scheible.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Sophomore Lauren Bond, of the women’s golf team, was named OVC “Women’s Golfer of the Week.” Bond shot rounds of 83-79 to finish at 162 (+18) taking home fifth-place honors at the SIUE Intercollegiate, presented by DoubleTree. Bonds’ scores led the way for the Lady Govs’ second-place finish at the tournament.

Junior Stephen Stansell, of the football team, was named OVC “Specialist of the Week.” Stansell nailed three field goals in the Govs’ 37-34 win against TSU, including the 35-yard game winner with 10.1 seconds left in the game. The junior placekicker now has hit seven consecutive field goals against TSU.

Junior Dustin Korte, of the men’s golf team, was named OVC “Men’s Co-Golfer of the Week.” Korte shares the honor with Morehead State’s Jared Flanery after they finished t-15th at Louisville’s Cardinal Intercollegiate. The junior shot a one-over par 145 for the tournament, helping the Govs finish ninth overall.

Junior Devin Stark, of the football team, continued his impressive junior campaign catching seven passes for 94 yards and a touchdown, Saturday, against TSU.  Stark has led the team in receiving yards in each of the Governors’ four games this season.

Junior Nikki Doyle, of the volleyball team, had 13 kills (.225 pct) at Jacksonville State, with two service aces and a block. She followed that with 15 kills (.244 pct) at Tennessee Tech with a service ace.
