Despite playing good golf in the state, the Govs have little luck regarding weather. Last week, the Govs finished third at the CSU Invitational played at the Canterbury Golf Club. The tournament was shortened to only 18 holes after two days of heavy rains eliminated much of the practice round and the entire first day.

“This should be a great event on a very good golf course,” head coach Kirk Kayden said. “Three of our guys (Dustin Korte, Anthony Bradley and Marco Iten) know this course and that gives you a mental edge. They like this course.”

Anthony BradleyThis week, Kayden will use the same lineup that played at Canterbury to take on Traditions Golf Club. A 7,100-yard, par-72 course, Traditions has hosted a number of PGA and USGA events, as well as the 2008 Big East Championships.

Bradley, who has been one of the most consistent Govs thus far, leads the Govs lineup with Korte. That one-two punch has accounted for four of the Govs five under-par rounds. Sophomore Trey Tarpley has the other under-par round and looks to continue his emergence in the middle of the lineup.

Marco ItenIten, an All-OVC pick a year ago, has struggled to overcome the big numbers through the fall. While his overall play has been consistent, his 76 stroke average could be much lower if not for one or two holes each round. Freshman Tucker Wallace shot a 77 at Canterbury, last week, and is still awaiting his first 54-hole event.

“Cincinnati always has a great field and we’ll have to be on our game this week to compete,” Kayden said. “I still feel like we haven’t put it all together quite yet, but we’re getting closer and that’s good.
