“It was a tough match,” said head coach Kelley Guth. “Jacksonville State played hard and created a number of opportunities. We had our chances too, but at the end of the day we couldn’t get the result. We just didn’t have enough to finish it.”

Austin Peay’s offense was on the brink most of the night, managing 24 shots and putting 13 on goal. Sophomore Natalia Ariza accounted for eight shots, while sophomore Andy Quiceno and junior Emily Perkins had three and two shots, respectively.

Emily PerkinsJacksonville State (2-11-3; 1-2-3 OVC) got on the board first when Kaitlyn Gregory was able to score a header from a corner kick in the 32nd minute. Austin Peay trailed at the break and needed until late in the second half to find the equalizer.

With just less than 20 minutes left in the game, the Lady Govs mounted a substantial attack. It started with a corner kick by sophomore Emily Kink. Austin Peay  increased its pressure and it didn’t take long for sophomore Tatiana Ariza to find Perkins for 78th-minute goal.

In the 20 extra minutes, Jacksonville State outshot the Lady Govs 3-2, but neither team could produce the game winner.

Natalia ArizaAustin Peay now turns its attention to Tennessee Tech, where it will play a 2:00pm, Sunday OVC match. The Golden Eagles lost, 2-1, to Murray State, Friday night.

“We have to refocus and be ready to play at Tennessee Tech, Sunday,” Guth said. “We have to play better than we did tonight. We’re going to have to make some lineup adjustments due to injuries.

“It’s going to come down to our players having to step up and play their part. We have to come together and push through. It’s going to be a tough game on Sunday and we have to be ready to battle.”
