Golf Govs lead F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team holds a one-shot lead at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate after a 16-under par 560, Monday.

Sophomore Anthony Bradley leads the Govs with a six-under par 138 in second place, while sophomore Macro Iten trails him by one shot with a five-under par 139 good enough for fourth. Sophomore Trey Tarpley is in 10th after a three-under par 141, while junior Dustin Korte’s two-under par 142 has him 16th.

Samford made a huge second-round comeback, shooting 277, and sits one shot behind APSU with a  561. Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State shot a pair of 282s for a 564, good enough for third. Troy (567) and Binghamton (569) round out the top five.

Now the Govs sit in a familiar place, playing in the final pairing for the third time in five fall tournaments. Last week, the Govs won the UC Bearcat Invitational, but this week, Austin Peay carries the burden of the being the leader to start the round.

Anthony BradleyAustin Peay made its biggest run during the second round on the final five holes. Coming down the stretch, it looked as if the Govs would be lucky to finish the round at even par. However, the trend of finishing strong continued. Iten led APSU going three-under par on the final five holes. He finished the day at three-under on the par-4s.

Bradley, meanwhile, had a terrific day from short yardage. He played the par-3s at four-under par and finished the 36 holes with 28 pars.

For the tournament, the 7,132-yard, Links at Novadell played almost to perfection. With the potential of bad weather on the horizon, the tournament’s final round has been moved up to a 8:00am, shotgun start.
