Tarpley named CIAF Athlete of the Week

Trey TarpleyAustin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Trey Tarpley, a sophomore on the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Hendersonville native was honored with his second Ohio Valley Conference “Golfer of the Week,” award after leading the Governors to their first tournament victory this fall at the University of Cincinnati’s Bearcat Invitational.

Tarpley led the Govs’ eight-stroke come-from-behind win against a Cinncinati field that included Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky. The sophomore shot rounds of 74-72-70 for a three-round 216 on his way to his season’s second top-five finish.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Junior Geofrey Kosgei, of the men’s cross country team, finished third at the Fast Cats Classic with a time of 26:27.30, leading the Govs to their second-straight team victory.

Senior Boniface Yator, of men’s cross country team, finished fourth at the Fast Cats Class with a time of 26:40.55.

Sophomore Xiamar Richards, of the women’s cross country team, finished fifth at the Fast Cats Classic, leading the Lady Govs to a third-place team finish.

Senior Amius Smith, of the football team, recorded 10 tackles and recovered a fumble in the Governors loss to Jacksonville State.

Senior Paige Economos, of the volleyball team, had 48 digs (6.86 dpg) in seven games. On serve she was charged with just one reception error in 36 chances (.972 recepton percentage).
