Heading into the final home weekend, things appear considerably worse than they actually are concerning the postseason. Having already had their bye weekend and played their travel partner, the Lady Govs have four games remaining to climb in the standings.

Tatiana ArizaFamiliar opponents have proven to give Austin Peay trouble which is evident in its 1-3-1 OVC mark. Sophomore Tatiana Ariza – the team’s leading scorer – has been limited to only two goals in league play, both coming on penalty kicks at Murray State. As a team, the Lady Govs have scored on four goals in conference play, while allowing eight.

Last season, the Lady Govs defeated SIU Edwardsville, 2-1, scoring both goals in the game’s first half. One key to success against the Cougars will be getting on the board early as SIUE is being outscored 12-6 in opening periods this season. The Cougar defense is highly regarded, as Devon Thomas was named OVC Defender of the Week and Claire Lovercheck, OVC Goalkeeper of the Week, after SIUE won games against Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky, last week.

Jocelyn MurdochAustin Peay and SIU Edwardsville have met twice previously, with APSU leading the series, 1-0-1.

Eastern Illinois, meanwhile, is making its season’s final road trip, beginning with a Friday match at Murray State. The Panthers are 5-8-2 overall with a 4-2 OVC mark. They have league wins against Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State, UT Martin and Morehead State. Jessica Blake was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the gamewinner against Morehead State last week.

Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois have met nine times, with EIU leading the series 6-1-2. Austin Peay’s only win came last season at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
