Eastern Illinois marks final home contest for Austin Peay Soccer

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s soccer team hosts Eastern Illinois, 2:00pm, Sunday for its final home contest which also serves as Senior Day. Prior to the game, the Lady Govs will honor seniors Mackenzie Ladd and Olivia Fournier.

The Lady Govs are looking to ride the momentum of a 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference win against SIU Edwardsville, Friday. Sophomores Natalia and Tatiana Ariza accounted for both Austin Peay scores in the game.

“It was an important win for us to stay in the race,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “We’re going to be short, numbers-wise, on Sunday, but we’ve been there before. We have to stick to our game plan and play a full 90 minutes.”

Austin Peay scored its first goal against the Cougars on a set play which saw Natalia Ariza come up with a deflection inside the box and rocket the ball past a diving keeper. Tatiana Ariza scored the insurance goal on a penalty kick, late in the second half.

Eastern Illinois is coming off a 3-0 loss to Murray State, Friday. The Panthers bring a 4-3 OVC mark into Sunday’s game with the Lady Govs, with wins against Morehead State and UT Martin. Kristin Germann leads EIU with five goals and two assists. Jessica Taldone, meanwhile, leads the OVC with a .850 save percentage and ranks second with 91 saves.
