Habitat for Humanity has been the beneficiary of the Sango UMC event for approximately 20 years.

Theresa Ellis and Joy Roberts, Sango UMC Scamper co-chairs of this event explain, “We strive to have more participants every year and we feel that having a certified course, a long event history and wonderful benefiting cause, makes the Scamper a great race to be a part of. Plus our event shirts have become very collectable.”

“We attend to provide support and participant’s information about our mission and ministry and how to support the ReStore. We feel participants will enjoy their run more when they know they’re doing it for Habitat,” explains Kready. “The morning of the event is electric. Runners, walkers, and strollers anxiously await their start time. The serious runners are in their minds, thinking strategy and time. The walkers dress up to show their Scamper spirit. The families who stroll make sure the kids are warm and ready to enjoy the outdoors. We really appreciate everyone who has the mind to wake up that early and accomplish their fitness goal, but also donate their time and money to Habitat.  If I wasn’t here to man the table, I’d be walking with them.”

Theresa Ellis adds, “What makes the Samper Road Race truly unique are the homemade baked goods donated by church members as prizes. While runner medals are awarded for each age group, we’re convinced many runners return year after year for the special baked goods.”

The 2011 Scamper is scheduled for Saturday, November 5th.  Entrants may pre-register online at active.com or at Sango United Methodist Church, 3301 Sango Road. Race day registration begins at 6:00am at Sango UMC. The 10K race begins at 7:00am and the 5K race begins at 8:30am. The one mile scenic stroll begins at 9:30am. The 10K and 5K courses are USATF Certified.
