67 year old Store Owner fights back, Robber flees

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On October 25th, 2011, around 10:15 pm, a man with a crowbar walked into The Wine Cellar, 4 Lealand Drive, at closing time, said he was homeless and demanded money. The 67 year old store owner refused to give him any money, at which time, the would-be robber struck him in the head with the crowbar.

The owner pulled out a revolver, the suspect grabbed the gun, and the fight was on. A 66 year old woman, an employee of the store heard the commotion, came out, saw the two men fighting, grabbed a baseball bat, and in the heat of the battle, hit the suspect and the store owner.

The suspect was able to pull the gun out of the owner’s hand and fled from the store. The owner and employee chased the suspect outside and saw him get into a older model, dark colored, Jeep Cherokee. The 67 year old man grabbed the baseball bat and struck the vehicle several times, possibly breaking a headlight and a window. The suspect then fled from the scene.

The 67 year old man had abrasions and was taken to the hospital by a family member for treatment. He was not hospitalized and is fine.

The suspect is described as white male, blond hair with ponytail, thin build, 5’8, 160 lbs, wearing a dark gray jacket, left prescription glasses and a New York Yankees baseball cap at the scene. The vehicle may have been an older model Jeep Cherokee, dark colored, and may have a broken headlight and window.
