Late fall season struggles continue for Austin Peay Lady Govs Golf

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsGulf Shores, AL – The late fall season struggles continued for Austin Peay State University women’s golf team, Monday, at the UAB Fall Beach Blast, being played at the at the Peninsula and Racquet Club.

With only one sub-80 round, the Lady Govs find themselves in 11th place after the first round of the tourney after shooting a 343. Memphis leads the tourney with a 300 followed by host UAB (309) in the 12-team tourney.  Fellow Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech is three strokes ahead of the Lady Govs at 340.

Freshman Marta Gutierrez led the Lady Govs with a 79. Her score was eight shots better than any other teammate as both junior Lauren Bond and senior Ashley Averitt each came in with 87s while junior Holly Batey was at 90 and sophomore Tabitha Beard 91.

Sophomore Tala Mumford, playing as an individual, shot an 83, while freshman Meghan Mueller, also playing individually, had an 88.

The final round of the Beach Blast—and the Lady Govs final fall round—will take place on the 6,050-yard Marsh and Cypress courses.
