The Home Depot Announces Fourth Annual Eco Options Christmas Light Trade-In Event

2011 Program Offers Customers Up to $5.00 off Energy Efficient Holiday Lighting

The Home DepotAtlanta, GA – The Home Depot®, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, today announced its Fourth Annual Eco Options Christmas Light Trade-In event. New this year, the Company has increased the savings, launching a tiered coupon program ranging from $3.00 to $5.00 off select energy efficient lighting.

Beginning November 3rd through 13th, customers can bring in their old working or non-working Christmas light strings to be recycled and receive a coupon for up to $5.00 off the purchase of energy efficient seasonal light-emitting diodes (LED) string lights.

Through this exchange, customers can receive:

  • $3.00 off coupon towards the purchase of Home Accents Holiday string lights
  • $4.00 off coupon towards the purchase of Martha Stewart Living or GE LED string lights
  • $5.00 off coupon towards the purchase of EcoSmart or Lightshow LED lights

Customers must purchase their new LED lights between November 3rd and 13th and are limited to five redemptions. This event will be valid at all The Home Depot U.S. stores.

“LED Christmas lights continue to be the growing trend in Holiday decor,” said Brad Whited, holiday decor merchant at The Home Depot. “Since The Home Depot began selling LED Christmas lights in 2006, the technology has improved and customers’ interest in them continues to grow with sales increasing each of the past five years. Last year, The Home Depot sold more than 40,000 miles of light sets, enough to circle the globe 1.5 times.”

This holiday season The Home Depot has a number of new Christmas lighting products including LED icicles, programmable, battery powered and motion lights. In addition, the Company also offers a large assortment of LED lights including Home Accents Holiday, Martha Stewart Living, GE, Sylvania and EcoSmart, which offers the best technology available. LED lights use up to 80 percent less energy and last up to 25,000 hours.
