Black wins opening game of Red-Black World Series

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Andy Cox threw six shutout innings to lead the Black Team post a 2-1 victory in Austin Peay State University baseball team’s Red-Black World Series, Friday, at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Cox allowed one hit over six innings – a fifth-inning single to P.J. Torres – and struck out four.  Closer Tyler Rogers allowed one unearned run in the seventh to pick up the save.

The Black Team broke onto the scoreboard first, scoring both its runs in the third inning as Jon Clinard and Matt Wollenzin each hit RBI singles in the inning.

Zach Toney surrendered those two runs (one earned) on five hits over 4.1 innings while striking out four. Zane Leffew threw one scoreless inning and Chuck Edlin retired the two batters he faced.

Besides Torres, Brett Carlson had the Red Team’s only other hit in the contest.

The Red-Black World Series continues with a 5:00pm, Saturday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.
