Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team continued to restock its pitching staff for the 2013 campaign, adding Germantown’s Hunter Lindley, who has signed a national letter of intent, the program announced Thursday.
Lindley, a 5-10, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher/infielder helped lead St. George’s Independent School to the Division II-A sub-state finals after posting a 1.75 ERA on the mound and batting .393 with seven home runs and 48 RBI. He finished the season as the Gryphons career hits leader (119) after posting a school-record 48 hits as a junior. He is a two-time all-region selection. For his career, Lindley holds a 2.55 ERA in 47 innings pitched with eight saves.
“We recruited Hunter as a pitcher but we know that at some point he has a chance to help us with the bat and play somewhere in our infield,” said Govs head coach Gary McClure. “As a pitcher, Hunter is a strike thrower who commands a fastball that sits in the upper 80’s, but it is his slider that really separates him and we believe makes him ready to pitch at this level. He has serious bat speed and strength as a hitter and we believe he has a chance to develop into a quality hitter. Hunter is so athletic and tough – he is a linebacker on (St. George’s) football team – and that mentality carries over to the mound for him. We know he is tough enough to handle situations on the mound as a freshman.”
Along with playing linebacker, Lindley also is a fullback for the St. George’s football team and was named to the all-region team and was selected to the Commercial Appeal’s Best of the Preps private schools team.
