Top Chattanooga women’s golfer signs with Austin Peay Lady Govs Golf

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Jessica Cathey, The Chattanooga Times Free Press 2011 Best of the Preps Player of the Year, has signed a letter of intent to play golf at Austin Peay State University.

The Soddy-Daisy High School product is expected to the lone member of Lady Govs’ head coach Sara Robson’s 2012-13 recruiting class. Cathey helped lead her team to the 2009 and 2010 Class AAA state championships.

Ranked fifth in Tennessee by the Junior Golf Scoreboard, she won the 2011 All-American Junior Golf Tour (AAJGT) Players Championship. This past fall for Soddy-Daisy she captured the district championship and finished second in region play.

In 2010, Cathey claimed the region crown and finished seventh in Class AAA state tourney.  She finished in third place in the Tennessee Girls Junior Amateur, played at the Clarksville Country Club. She also won the Junior PGA Qualifer at River Bend Country Club in Shelbyville.

In 2009, the Hixon native was presented the Directors Award from the AAJGT and finished fourth at the Class AAA state tournament.

“Jessica is a talented golfer that has had a great junior career,” Robson said. “It has been great to watch her grow up and her game continue to improve.  She is very excited about becoming a Lady Gov and our team is excited to have her join our program.  Jessica’s shares the same passion for golf as our girls do. Her hard work, dedication and tournament experience will add to our program in a positive way.”
