Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

Christmas on the Cumberland

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan kicks off the 2011 Christmas on the Cumberland with the assistance of Santa and Mrs. Claus

Come enjoy the popular Christmas on the Cumberland walk-through event now through January 1st. Event hours are 5:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday and 5:00pm-11:00pm. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Join us for free activities from 6:00pm-8:00pm, December 9th, as local dance academies take the stage to perform holiday routines and on December 10th to enjoy free cookie decorating! Children of all ages are sure to love Christmas on the Cumberland.

Adult Volleyball League Seeks Players

VolleyballThis league is open to ages 18 and up and costs $20.00 per player. Individuals or teams can register at any of our three community centers or at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office, December 5th through January 6th. All games will be held at the Kleeman Community Center.

Pictures with Santa

SantaThis holiday season, kids can have their pictures taken for FREE with the jolly old man himself, Santa Claus, at three of our community centers.

Bring your own camera to take pictures from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, December 13th- Kleeman Community Center, December 14th- Crow Community Center, and December 15th- Burt-Cobb Community Center. Join us for games, snacks, and lots of fun!

Silver Social- December 17th

Senior's dance at the Quicksilver Social at the Kleeman Community CenterEveryone ages 50 and up, come out to the Kleeman Community Center from 5:00pm-7:00pm every 3rd Saturday of the month to enjoy music, games and refreshments- all for only $2.00!

Try Scuba Class

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceThe Indoor Aquatic Center will hold its first introductory class Saturday, December 17th at 2:00pm for those wanting to get a taste of the scuba experience and an overview of what is involved in Scuba Certification (coming in March 2012).

Ten people must be pre-registered to proceed with the class. Class is $25.00 and open to ages 10 and up. Visit http://recpro.cityofclarksville.com for more information.

Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion

The Smith Trahern MansionHelp the City of Clarksville preserve one of the oldest and most beloved historic homes in the downtown area. Your purchase of a watercolor print of the Mansion by Lynne Waters Griffey or note cards could make a real difference in saving this treasure from further deterioration.

Purchase yours today- 11” x 14” unframed print – $50.00, 9” x 12” unframed print – $30.00, note cards -$20.00 (Pack of 10 cards with envelopes). These can be purchased at Fort Defiance Interpretive Center and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Office.

Aqua Zumba

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceJoin us every Wednesday evening from 6:00pm-7:00pm, at the new Indoor Aquatic Center for Aqua Zumba! This class integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines.

Cost is $3.00 per class.

Story Tellers

LEAP OrganizationChildren and parents can enjoy interactive story time as the storytellers from L.E.A.P. (Leadership Enlightenment Academic Achievement and Perseverance) bring to life stories from cultures across the Globe.

This program will be held once a month, kicking off with “The Polar Express” at 7:00pm on December 13th. It is free to attend, but a Community Center ID card is required.
