Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Josh Terry named OVC Player of the Week

Ohio Valley ConferenceNashville, TN – Josh Terry, who played a major role in two Austin Peay State University victories with late-game heroics, has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

That was announced Monday by the OVC office. Terry becomes the first Govs’ player to be honored with a weekly honor.

Terry played a significant role in Austin Peay wins against Arkansas State, an 86-82 overtime victory, last Monday, and Tennessee, a 74-70 come-from-behind verdict. He was Austin Peay’s scoring leader in both contests, tossing in 22 points against Arkansas State and 20 versus the Volunteers.

Against Arkansas State, he finished 9-of-15 from the floor, but really surfaced in overtime, scoring the period’s first two buckets before sealing the win with a free throw with 2.3 seconds left. He scored six points in the extra session.

He scored nine of his second-half 14 points in the final 6:27 as Austin Peay ended the game on a 21-6 run.  The Henderson, KY, native scored the go-ahead basket with 1:05 remaining and hit the game-clinching free throw for the second consecutive game, this time with 2.4 seconds left after grabbing a defensive rebound.

In addition, Terry tallied a team-high five assists and four steals. The Govs defensive stopper held UT’s Cameron Tatum to just one point and then, with Tennessee down by three with 12.9 seconds left, was shifted to three-point specialist Skylar McBee, who was unable to even get his hands on the ball to attempt a potential game-tying shot as Terry blanketed him.

Earlier Monday, Terry was named the College Sports Madness Mid-Major Player of the Week.
